Why convert PNG to JPG

PNG is lossless, which is great for screenshots and graphics but makes photos huge. A photo saved as PNG can easily be five to ten times the size of the same photo as a JPG. If an upload form says your file is too big, or an email bounces, converting to JPG usually fixes it.

Good to know

  • Transparent areas turn white, because JPG has no transparency.
  • Screenshots with text look best at 90% quality or higher. Lower quality can blur the edges of letters.
  • Still too big? Set Size to 2048 or 1080 pixels as well.

How much smaller will my file get?

For photos, often 70-90% smaller. Screenshots with large flat areas shrink less.

Does PNG to JPG lose quality?

JPG is lossy, but at 90% quality the difference is very hard to see in photos.

Are my images uploaded?
